Description
Nature Clear GWS10 is a simple, low-cost greywater filter and the most effective way to treat household greywater. The equipment remains affordable, and if your site is suitable, the only significant excavation work needed will be trenching. As of 2011, Queensland has approved the Nature Clear GWS10 only as a primary treatment system. In addition to most Queensland councils, some councils in NSW, NT, and Tasmania also permit the installation of Nature Clear.
How It Works
Distribute the treated water into trenches according to your engineer’s specifications. Ensure the engineer’s calculations exclude toilet water to avoid making the trenches unnecessarily large and expensive. For optimal filtration, remove food scraps and grease from kitchen wastewater using a grease trap (see available GWS10 and grease trap packages).
The filtration tank, with a size of less than 1 cubic meter, includes a pine bark coarse filter on top of various grades of sand and gravel. The system provides the filter cloth, but you should source the sand and gravel locally due to freight costs. The system includes sample bags to help you choose the correct grade of materials.
The pine bark filter traps large particles not caught in the grease trap, as well as lint from the washing machine. The sand filter captures finer materials, polishes the water, and reduces its organic content. A filter cloth separates the pine bark from the sand. The filtered material and bark will compost over time. Remove and replace the bark with fresh material every twelve months, which is available at your local garden nursery. If the distribution area is downhill from the filtration tank, your engineer can design a distribution system without a pump. If this is not the case, you will need a pump well with a pump.
